MANILA, Philippines — Davao del Sur was struck by a magnitude 4.4 earthquake on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake was detected by Phivolcs at 4:40 a.m. and the epicenter was located five kilometers southwest of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.
The tectonic earthquake’s depth of focus was 24 kilometers, stated Phivolcs.
Up to Intensity II was recorded in areas in Cotabato, which Phivolcs defines as “slightly felt.”
State seismologists reported the following Intensities:
Intensity II – Makilala and M’lang, Cotabato
Intensity I – Magsaysay, Hagonoy, and Davao City, Davao del Sur
Instrumental Intensities:
Intensity III – Tantangan and Koronadal City, South Cotabato
Intensity II – Tupi, South Cotabato; Davao City
Intensity I – Tampakan, South Cotabato; Columbio, Sultan Kudarat
No aftershocks and damage are expected, Phivolcs said.
