Quezon village watchman dies in ‘accidental’ gun discharge

An alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebel in Quezon province who was tasked with recruiting new guerrillas surrendered to authorities in San Andres town on Wednesday (Oct. 19) night.

LUCENA CITY — A barangay tanod (village watchman) in Sariaya town in Quezon province died on Saturday after he reportedly shot himself by accident.

In a report Monday, Sariaya police said Enrique Gollene of Barangay Talaan Pantoc was on the terrace of his house around 7:30 a.m. and cleaning his caliber .45 pistol when the gun accidentally fired, hitting him on his chest.

Gollene died on the spot, as witnessed by his wife, the police said.

The report did not state if the firearm is registered in Gollene’s name or the barangay’s. INQ
