MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — This city’s government has condoned penalties and interests on real property taxes (RPT) to help residents pay almost P75 million in arrears in the last three years.

Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said he approved Ordinance No. 3, which the city council and Vice Mayor Gerald Aquino passed last October.

In an interview, Garbo said this was the second relief the city government gave when it suspended RPT payments after the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in the country in March 2020.

Taxable properties include land, buildings, land improvements, and machinery. The RPT is a local revenue source to fund public programs and services.

The deadline to settle arrears is Dec. 31. INQ
