2 children drown, one missing as ‘Egay’ exits Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Two children are confirmed dead while one person remains missing following floods brought by Tropical Depression “Egay”, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday.

Mary Joy Reyes, 3 and her sister Dorina Reyes, 5, of Dinalupihan, Bataan had drowned, the NDRRMC said in its latest situation report.

The missing has been identified as Ariel delos Santos, 15, a resident of Purok 5, Barangay (village) Old Cabalan, Olongapo City.

Floods were also reported in the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan,Pampanga, Olongapo City, and Malabon City due to Egay’s continuous rains.

Egay left the Philippine area of responsibility Monday afternoon but was still expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over the Western sections of Luzon and Visayas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuesday.

In its latest weather bulletin, Pagasa said a new weather disturbance, “Falcon”, was seen 670 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar. The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and was expected to move west northwest at 19 kph.

No signal warning has been raised so far, Pagasa said.

Falcon is expected to bring occasional rains over the western section of Luzon, the state-run weather bureau said.

By Wednesday morning, Falcon is expected to be 440 km east of Virac, Catanduanes; 420 km east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora by Thursday; and 350 km east of Basco, Batanes by Friday, Pagasa said.
