Leyte village chief arrested in drug bust

ORMOC CITY — A village chief is facing charges after he was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and policemen in a drug bust in Mayorga town, Leyte on Saturday, Nov. 5.

PDEA-Eastern Visayas Director Edgar Jubay identified the suspects as Junipher Lumpas, 46, chief of Barangay Poblacion Zone 2, and his alleged cohort Bernard Solis, 22.

Recovered from the possession of Lumpas were one sachet of shabu and a black leather wallet that contained cash amounting to P3,500 and one plastic sachet of shabu worth P34,000.

Solis denied involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Lumpas, on the other hand, admitted he was a drug surrenderee in 2016. He, however, denied owning the prohibited drugs seized by law enforcers.

Charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were being readied against the two suspects who are temporarily detained at the PDEA detention cell in Palo, Leyte.
