Laguna church loses P50,000 cash donations to thieves

LUCENA CITY – Thieves broke into a Catholic church in Pagsanjan, Laguna on Saturday and carted away some P50,000 in cash donations, the local police reported on Sunday.

The Region 4A police reported that the thieves entered the Diocese Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, located in the town center, by climbing the fence and breaking one of its windows.

Once inside, the thieves destroyed the main door and window grills of the parochial office.

Police said the robbers proceeded to the altar and forcibly opened three donation boxes and carted away an estimated P50,000 and a mobile phone.

The time of the incident was not specified in the report but the robbery was discovered by the church staff at around 6:30 a.m.

The police were collecting footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the vicinity of the church to help identify and track down the culprits.
