MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Balut Island in Davao Occidental on Saturday afternoon, the state seismologists reported.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, occurred 196 east of Balut Island in the Municipality of Sarangani.
It occurred at 3:42 p.m., and it had a depth of 93 kilometers.
Aftershocks are expected following this earthquake, but it is not likely to cause damage, according to Phivolcs.
