Magnitude 5.4 quake jolts Balut Island in Davao Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Balut Island in Davao Occidental on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at 2:01 pm, 135 kilometers southeast of Balut Island, with a depth of 82 kilometers, according to Phivolcs. Phivolcs issued the advisory at 6:13 p.m.

Intensity 3 was felt in Sarangani, Davao Occidental; Intensity 2 in Kiamba and Malungon in Sarangani; and Intensity 1 in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
Phivolcs also measured an instrumental Intensity 1 in General Santos City, Koronadal City, South Cotabato; and Zamboanga City.
The earthquake is not expected to cause damage, but aftershocks are expected.
