First Lady Liza Marcos installed as chief of Girl Scout of the Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos was installed as the Chief Girl Scout of the Philippines (GSP) on Thursday.
During the investiture ceremony at Malacañan Palace, Marcos pledged to help the environment and mold the qualities of young women.
“As the First Lady of the Philippines, I have been designated as the Chief Girl Scout of the Philippines. It is a title that I will truly be proud of… not only because of its meaningful history but more so because it will allow me to help our young women cultivate the same values that I learned when I was a Girl Scout in school.”
“As part of the GSP movement, I am committed to [helping] shape our young women’s mental, emotional, and social qualities. I will strive to help our environment and do our part towards nation-building. Together, we will achieve these goals,” she also said.

“And if we can find ways to help save our environment, we will definitely be able to help our community and our country,” she added.
Recently, her husband, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., said that he wants tree planting to be included in flood control projects of the government as he observed deforestation in parts of the country.
In May 1940, the GSP was formalized through Commonwealth Act No. 542.
There are 800,000 girl scouts in the country, according to 2017 data.
