Paeng deaths rise to 101; over 2 million persons affected

MANILA, Philippines — The reported deaths left by Tropical Storm Paeng, internationally known as Nalgae, rose to 101 on Monday night, according to a  situation report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Of these deaths, 73 have already been verified and 28 still remain for validation.

There were 70 reported injuries and 66 missing persons.

Those were the figures reported in the following regions: Central Luzon, Bicol, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao or Barmm, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The number of affected individuals has climbed to 2,039,363 — or a total of 618,817 families — in 5,466 barangays.

A total of 56,179 families — or 205,016 individuals — are still in evacuation centers, while 250,255 families — 658,750 individuals  — are outside of these centers.

The estimated damage to agriculture is at P1.174 million and damage to infrastructure is at P760,341.

So far, 158 cities and towns have declared a state of calamity.
