MMDA to start construction of PUV stops along Commonwealth Avenue, QC before Christmas
MANILA, Philippines —Stops for public utility vehicles will soon dot Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
The construction of these stops is scheduled to kick off before Christmas.
In a Laging Handa public briefing on Friday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Melissa Carunungan was asked when the installation of PUV stops will begin.
She answered: “Inaasahan po ng ating chairman [Carlo Dimayuga III] na sisimulan na po ‘to before Christmas.”
(Our chairman expects the construction to commence before Christmas.)
Article continues after this advertisementPUV operators, Carunungan said, welcomed their plan, hailing it beneficial for the commuting public.
Article continues after this advertisement“Ang tugon po ng mga operators tungkol dito ay gusto naman… because of the convenience of passengers. There will be a proper designated babaan at sakayan po para sa kanila,” she said.
(The operators liked it because of the convenience of passengers. There will be a proper designated loading and unloading area for them.)
“For the jeepney operators din po (as well), it will help in lessening the wear and tear of their vehicles po,” she added.
The MMDA recently unveiled its construction plan of PUV stops to keep the safety of road users and instill road discipline.
Last Tuesday, Dimayuga and MMDA Acting General Manager Baltazar Melgar held a meeting with Quezon City government representatives and various jeepney operators at Barangay Commonwealth Hall.
