LEGAZPI CITY — More than 100 people were evacuated from hazard-prone areas in several towns in Camarines Sur province as Tropical Depression Paeng intensified on Thursday, Oct. 27.
Gremil Alexis Naz, Office of Civil Defense Bicol spokesperson, said in a report that officials at Barangay Mambulo Nuevo in Libmanan town evacuated at 8 a.m. four families or 14 people and 35 families, or 110 people, at Barangay Camuning in Calabanga town.
Continuous rains also flooded 24 villages in six towns in the province.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that Paeng was some 660 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
Pagasa Southern Luzon said moderate to heavy rains are being experienced in Camarines Sur; towns of Daet, Labo, and Sta. Elena in Camarines Norte; Burias Island, Masbate City and Aroroy in Masbate; and Tabaco City, Ligao City, Rapu-Rapu, Pioduran, and Legazpi City in Albay. INQ
