LUCENA CITY — A wanted New People’s Army (NPA) rebel eluded government forces sent to arrest him on Tuesday, Oct. 25, but left behind a grenade and bomb-making materials in Gumaca town in Quezon province.
The Gumaca police reported on Wednesday, Oct. 26, that police and Army soldiers, with a warrant, launched an operation around 10:30 a.m. to catch alleged NPA rebel Julius Lucaba in Barangay Villa Mendoza, where he was sighted resting on a coconut kiln.
However, the target was alerted of the approaching state security forces and escaped, said the report.
The guerrilla, facing kidnapping and illegal detention cases, left behind a hand grenade, two improvised explosive devices, bomb-making components, and personal belongings.
