Only 35% of jeepneys have acquired a fare matrix – LTFRB

MANILA, Philippines — Only 82,000 of the targeted 230,000 — or 35% — of public utility jeepneys have so far acquired a copy of the updated fare matrix that will lallow them to increase their fares, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said Tuesday.

The LTFRB technical division chief, Joel Bolano, said jeepney operators could have their fare matrix released within three days.

Delays in the release, he stressed are “minimal or isolated cases.”

As of this writing, LTFRB board members were still deliberating whether they would delay the fee collection that would be imposed for the operators who struggle to comply.

Bolano reminded jeepneys drivers and operators that they could not charge passengers higher fares without the new fare matrix.

“We have already caught some [violating the law] nationwide and issued them tickets,” he said.
