MANILA, Philippines — With transport agencies anticipating an influx of travelers during “Undas,” the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday conducted a random inspection of passenger buses in Metro Manila to ensure their “roadworthiness” and compliance with safety standards.

A total of 16 mobile teams were deployed to bus terminals to issue verbal warnings to violators even as LTO chief Assistant Secretary Teofilo Guadiz III ordered them not to allow public utility vehicles that failed the roadworthiness test to get back on the road in order to prevent accidents.

The LTO said that so far, three passenger buses were barred from operating for several violations, including a broken signal light and side mirror, expired registration, defective reverse light and wiper, and the lack of no-smoking signs and stickers on designated seats for persons with disabilities.

The random inspections would continue even on weekends, it added.

From Oct. 27 to Nov. 4, all LTO officers will be on “heightened alert” to ensure the safety of motorists and commuters.
