MANILA, Philippines – Parts of the country are forecast to experience overcast skies with rains and thunderstorms on Tuesday due to various weather disturbances, said the state weather bureau.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), shear line, the northeast monsoon or amihan and localized thunderstorms are affecting different parts of the Philippines.

“Yung ITCZ ay naapektuhan ang Palawan, Visayas, at ganun din sa Mindanao,” said Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio in the agency’s morning weather forecast.

(The ITCZ will affect Palawan, Visayas, as well as Mindanao).

Pagasa has also been monitoring a low pressure area which may become a tropical depression. It is located 920 kilometers east of eastern Visayas and is currently part of the ITCZ that is affecting the aforementioned areas.

Meanwhile, a shear line, where cold and warm winds meet, is forecast to cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Quirino, said Pagasa.

The northeast monsoon or the amihan is also causing partially cloudy skies with isolated light rains in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley and the rest of central Luzon, said state meteorologists.

However, strong winds due to amihan have prompted Pagasa to raise a gale warning in the seaboard of northern Luzon, namely Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, there will be fair weather with isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.

Areas with heavy rains are warned by Pagasa of possible flash floods and landslides.

Pagasa listed these temperature ranges in the following cities and areas for Tuesday:

  • Metro Manila — 24 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio — 16 to 24  degrees Celsius
