MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday met with the agriculture cluster of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) to discuss his administration’s measures to ensure food security in the country.
The Office of the President released a statement saying that the PSAC had provided recommendations to strengthen the government’s food security program by suggesting new farming techniques and supply chain enhancements.
During the discussion, the Council also proposed a review of the National Food Authority’s policies and organizational structure to better position the organization as a logistical hub.
Marcos also talked about his plans to establish the Department of Science and Technology’s digital platform Sarai, which would use data from the Diwate microsatellite to offer stakeholders crop advisories tailored to each particular site.
He said that the method would provide immediate alerts to farmers and fishermen about weather, drought, and flood predictions, as well as the identification and spread of diseases.
The President also ordered the acceleration of replanting coconut trees and the distribution of seedlings and intercropping for better land use.
Marcos earlier said he will not yet relinquish his lead yet over the Department of Agriculture (DA), saying he believes he is still needed there.
