MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has received more than P8.6 million (€150,000 ) in humanitarian assistance from the European Union (EU) for communities ravaged by Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru).
In a statement on Friday, the EU said the aid is expected to benefit more than 35,000 people in Central Luzon and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), areas that experienced the wrath of Karding.
The EU aid supports the humanitarian organization Philippine Red Cross in assisting affected families through the distribution of emergency relief goods, including shelter materials, food, water containers, and hygiene kits, as it is part of the overall contribution of the EU to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The EU said the funding would also cover cash grants for beneficiaries to help them with their basic needs, medical support for injured persons, and school repairs.

Karding is considered the strongest tropical cyclone to hit the Philippines in 2022 so far. It affected almost one million people, displaced around 4,000, flattened more than 6,000 houses, and damaged about 50,000.
