MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Obet begins to accelerate as it moves west-southwestward before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) over the weekend, the state meteorologists said on Thursday.
“Tropical Depression Obet is forecast to track west-southwestward until tomorrow morning before turning westward towards Luzon Strait,” the Pagasa said in its 11 p.m. update.
The center of Obet may traverse the Babuyan Islands-Batanes area on Saturday morning before exiting the PAR on Saturday evening.
Currently, the center of Obet is located 555 km east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No.1 remains hoisted over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga).
