Tropical Depression Obet may become a storm Friday or Saturday

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Obet may intensify into a tropical storm by late Friday or early Saturday, according to the latest Wednesday advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Obet is likely to further intensify once it reaches the West Philippine Sea.

The center of Obet was last located 880 km east of extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
