Pagasa may hoist wind signals in Northern Luzon areas due to Tropical Depression Obet

MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists may hoist tropical cyclone wind signals in some areas in Northern Luzon by Wednesday night or Thursday morning due to Tropical Depression Obet.

“Based on the latest forecast scenario, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal may be hoisted for some areas in Northern Luzon tonight or tomorrow morning at the earliest,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)  said in its Wednesday advisory.

Pagasa also said the highest possible wind signal that may be hoisted due to Obet is Wind Signal No. 2.

Obet’s center is currently located 920 km east of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Obet is forecast to track west-southwestward beginning today through Friday early morning while accelerating before turning westward towards Northern Luzon or the Luzon Strait.

On the track forecast, Obet’s center may traverse extreme Northern Luzon or the northern portion of mainland Northern Luzon between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
