TUGUEGARAO CITY—The town of Santa Praxedes in the northernmost part of Cagayan province was placed under a state of calamity on Tuesday (Oct. 18) after Typhoon “Neneng” (international name: Nesat) left a trail of destruction.

In an interview, Santa Praxedes Mayor Esterlina Aguinaldo said the town disaster office’s recommendation for the declaration was approved by the town council following the assessment of the damage.

Neneng destroyed P60 million worth of infrastructure and crops in the municipality, she said.

Severe flooding affected 1,203 families, or 3,616 people, and destroyed or damaged 53 houses in the town.
