Up to 5 years needed to give all towns fire trucks

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines needs up to five years before every municipality in the country  could get its own fire truck, a report from Radyo Inquirer 990AM said Tuesday.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said that due to lack of appropriate funds of the department, it could take four to five years more before all municipalities could have their own fire trucks and other fire fighting equipment.

Currently, the Bureau of Fire Protection is relying on the P18 million, to P19 million-worth of modern fire fighting equipment that Austria pledged to grant the Philippines in the third quarter of this year.

This condition however, should hamper the BFP’s service to the public, Robredo said. Radio Report from Chona Yu
