Remulla sees son’s arrest over drugs as ‘test on how we handle sensitive matter like this’

MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla on Friday sees the arrest of his son over alleged involvement in the importation of P1.3 million worth of high-grade marijuana as a “test” to see how this “sensitive matter” would be handled.

“Ito ang tingin ko po dito isang pagsubok lamang ito sa aking pamilya, sa aking sarili, at marahil in so many ways, pagsubok sa ating bansa, on how we handle a sensitive matter like this,” Remulla said in an SMNI interview.

(I think this is a test for my family, myself, and perhaps, in so many ways, in our country, on how we handle a sensitive matter like this.)

“I am the head of the justice department, I will let justice take its course,” the Justice chief also said.

Remulla also said he has not asked for any favors from anybody upon learning of the incident.

“Kahit simula pa lang noong nalaman ko, wala akong hininging pabor sa kahit kanino. Ang sabi ko nga ikuha lang sya ng abogado, para madepensahan niya ang kanyang sarili,” he continued.

Juanito Jose Remulla III was arrested on Oct. 11 during a controlled delivery of P1,304,800 worth of kush or hybrid marijuana.

Complaints have been lodged against the eldest son of Remulla before the Office of the City Prosecutor-Las Piñas City on Thursday, October 13, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

PDEA added that the 38-year-old son of Remulla will be facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
