TUGUEGARAO CITY—The Allacapan town council in Cagayan province on Thursday (Oct. 13) approved the declaration of a state of calamity following the extensive damage to farms and infrastructure caused by Tropical Depression “Maymay.”

The town councilors noted that 22 villages were affected by floods in the town, affecting 1,025 families or 3,849 people.

At least 44 families, or 147 people, were brought to evacuation centers.

The flood-hit villages were Binubongan, Bulo, Burot, Cataratan, Capanickian Norte, Capanickian Sur, Centro East, Centro West, Daan Ili, Dagupan, Iringan, Labben, Maluyo, Mapurao, Matucay, Nagattatan, Tamboli, Silagan, Capagaran, Capalutan, and Pacac.

Mayor Harry Florida, in a radio interview, said the declaration would allow the local government to send aid to affected farmers and other villagers.
