Death toll due to Maymay rises to 2 in Cagayan province

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Another fisherman in Cagayan province was found dead after he drowned in the sea amid the heavy rain due to Tropical Depression Maymay, which has weakened into a low-pressure area, authorities said Thursday, Oct. 13.

The fatality was identified as Richard Mangrubang, 47, of Barangay San Vicente in Santa Ana town.

Major Manuel Viloria, Santa Ana police chief, said Mangrubang went fishing on Monday evening and failed to return home.

Mangrubang’s fellow fishermen last saw him in the vicinity of Palaui island.

His body was recovered in the waters off Ipil in Cagayan’s Gonzaga town on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Mangrubang was the second fatality related to the onslaught of Maymay in Cagayan.

On Tuesday, the body of fisherman Marcial Pugal, 52, of Buguey town was found in the waters off Santa Ana after he also reportedly drowned due to rough seas. INQ
