MANILA, Philippines — Rain and cloudy skies are expected in Batanes, Babuyan Islands and Cagayan due to the trough or extension of a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said Monday.

In the daily weather update, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Ober Badrina said the weather bureau is monitoring two LPAs — one inside and another outside the PAR.

Fair weather elsewhere

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, is expected to have generally fair weather with possible isolated rain showers in the afternoon and evening.

(The rest of the country, particularly Luzon, can expect fair weather but there is a chance of isolated rains and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.)

The LPA inside PAR was last spotted 590 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, which Bedrina said could intensify into a tropical storm.

(Based on the latest data, we are not discounting the possibility that this will intensify into a storm, but the chances are slim.)

Bedrina said the LPA is expected to move west, bringing cloudy skies and rains to Northern Luzon.
