The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) said on Thursday it suspended construction on a social housing project in Quezon City after a deadly workplace accident last Oct. 4.

Dole National Capital Region director Sarah Mirasol said she issued the work stoppage order on Oct. 5 after labor inspectors were denied access to the construction site along Sto. Cristo Street in Barangay Balingasa a day after the accident killed Francis Anzures, 45, and injured at least 10 others.

She said labor inspectors found several workplace safety violations by the general contractor, A. Dela Cruz Builders, and its two subcontractors.

There were a total of 27 workers at the job site and Mirasol said they are looking at the financial assistance and benefits for the affected workers and their families. —DONA Z. PAZZIBUGAN
