Marcos urged to clarify policy on infrastructure

MANILA, Philippines — As the first 100 days of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. approaches, a think tank called on the Chief Executive to provide policy clarity for his infrastructure program.

Infrawatch Convenor Atty. Terry Ridon urged Marcos to give policy clarity on the issues of traffic, electricity, and digital infrastructure, among others.

“Because infrastructure exists at the highest level of the government, it should be the president that should define the infrastructure policy for the rest of his term,” Ridon said in a statement.

The president was also urged to look into the “shovel-ready” projects left by the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte, particularly the rail projects.

“The best thing for BBM is just to look at the shovel-ready projects left by the Duterte government and implement them — the Metro Manila subway, the North-South Commuter Railway,” said Dr. Epictetus Patalinghug, University of the Philippines-Virata School of Business Professor Emeritus.

“This must transect shovel-ready projects like the Calamba, Tutuban (railway), it is still lacking in bidding acceptance from DOTR for the past two years,” Patalinghug added.

Marcos said the first 100 days of his administration achieved a “functional” government with “the best and the brightest” officials.

October 8 marks the president’s 100th day in office.
