MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s youngest son, William Vincent Marcos, joined the Executive Motorcycle Riding Course (EMRC) of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday.

“One of the participants in this special class of the ERMC is Mr. William Vincent Marcos. Thank you for joining our training,” PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said, speaking in a mix of English and Filipino at the opening ceremony of the course in Camp Crame in Quezon City.

The younger Marcos is among the 84 trainees under the the two classes of the HPG’s training program.

According to Azurin, the EMRC is distinct from the motorcycle riding courses offered by other institutions as it gives prime focus on teaching safety.

“We are assured that, if you finish this training, you will no longer be afraid to ride a motorcycle anywhere. You will have the competence, as well as the confidence,  that you can use your big bikes anywhere,” he said.

The ceremony was live streamed through the PNP Facebook page, but it was notably cordoned off for live media coverage.

The PNP has yet to respond to queries from reporters about the cost of the training and who will pay for it.

In a message to INQUIRER.net, PNP spokesman Gen. Roderick Alba said they have since sought more details about the course from the HPG.

“We sent [the] official memo to them. We are waiting for the official reply,” he said.
