UP Cebu holds 1st Asian fair

The University of the Philippines Cebu history class under Prof. Lenie Ronquillo-Castañeda hosted an “All about Asia” fair last March 17 at the university’s Arts and Sciences lobby.

“The original plan was for the class to tour around Cebu, but since the bus cannot accommodate them all, we thought of an alternative activity,” said Castañeda, who organized the Asian fair for the first time as a project for her students.

“I wanted to let my students experience Asia in a fun way,” she added.

“Our main purpose was to showcase the different cultures in Asia,” said Danielle Miranda, one of the organizers.

There were booths displaying Asian dishes, a photo booth and balloon pop booth.

There was also a quiz bowl for history class students.

The participants also wore traditional costumes of some Asian countries.

Castañeda will not be teaching next semester at UP Cebu anymore.  “This event is a tribute to our amazing teacher, since she is exiting the university,” said Miranda.

The Asian fair became quite emotional when the students gave messages to Castañeda.

“This event helped us became more familiar with what we discussed in our history class,” said Gabrielle Padilla, a UP student.

The “All about Asia” fair was successful with the combined efforts of the students and their professor.

“I hope that this wouldn’t be the last Asian Fair in the University”, said Castañeda. /UP Cebu Masscom student Rovie Joy Erece
