MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Surigao del Sur on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs detected the earthquake at 10:58 a.m. and located its epicenter 63 kilometers northeast of Cortes, Surigao del Sur.
The quake was an aftershock of the magnitude 5.3 quake that hit Surigao del Sur on Wednesday.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 6 kilometers.
Phivolcs reported Instrumental Intensity I at Tandag City, Surigao Del Sur.
No aftershocks and damage are expected, Phivolcs said.
