LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The body of a fisherman, who went missing on Tuesday, Sept. 27, was found floating Wednesday in the waters off the coast of Pasuquin town in Ilocos Norte province.
The Pasuquin disaster risk reduction and management office (DRRMO) confirmed that the body was that of Mike June Ranada.
On Tuesday, the 34-year-old fisherman sailed off to the waters in Gabu Norte village in this city to go fishing with other fishermen at 3 a.m.
A police report said that except for Ranada, all his companions returned to the shoreline in the same village at around 10 a.m.
A search-and-rescue operation launched immediately found that Ranada and his boat crashed and were swept away by strong currents and big waves, rescuers said.
Ranada’s wrecked boat was found floating in the waters off Gabu Norte around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, said rescuers.
Fishermen found his body about 200 meters from the shore of Sitio Cavintaran at Davila village in neighboring Pasuquin, said investigators.
Local officials retrieved Ranada’s body, which was airlifted from Pasuquin to Laoag, according to the Pasuquin DRRMO. INQ
