Rain clouds are expected to linger over parts of Luzon in the next few days, providing an extended respite from summer’s hot days, forecasters said Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the country would continue to experience rains and thunderstorms over the coming days as a “frontal system,” which carries a mass of clouds, is expected to stay a little longer.

Pagasa said rains would likely dampen Metro Manila until Tuesday. The cloudy weather is also expected to affect Bicol and Eastern Visayas starting Monday.

Pagasa forecaster Mikos Peñaranda said the rains brought cooler temperature to Luzon, including Metro Manila. At this time of year, Metro Manila usually suffers under 34-35 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, temperatures in the city were recorded at 32 degrees, due to the cooling effect of the rains and clouds.

Aside from cloudy weather, a new low pressure area has been seen forming off the coast of eastern Mindanao. Pagasa said this would dampen the southern region and the Visayas if it enters the country this week. As of yesterday, there seemed little chance the low pressure area would become a tropical cyclone. Kristine L. Alave
