MANILA, Philippines — The total count of individuals affected by Typhoon “Karding” (international name: Noru), after it ravaged several provinces in Luzon over the weekend, is now at 157,023, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday.

According to the NDRRMC’s latest situation report, this total translated to 39,892 families who are from the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calbarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Meanwhile, the verified number of deaths due to the earthquake remained at 8, while recorded injuries increased to five.

Of the total affected, NDRRMC said 8,825 families or 37,135 individuals are still inside 574 evacuation centers, while 3,778 families or 15,759  individuals are not in evacuation centers (which NDRRMC said means they are staying at other places.)

The report also showed that the estimated cost of damage to different infrastructures in these regions rose to P23,050,000.

A total of 3,068 houses were also recorded to have been damaged, 2,437 of which partially damaged while 638 were totally destroyed.

Karding exited the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday night.
