Magnitude 5.3 earthquake hits Surigao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit Surigao del Sur on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs initially said that the earthquake was at magnitude 5.4. It later revised their report to magnitude 5.3.

Phivolcs detected the quake at 9:12 a.m. and located its epicenter 43 kilometers northeast of Cortes, Surigao del Sur.

The tectonic earthquake’s depth of focus was 18  kilometers.

Phivolcs reported the following Instrumental Intensities:

Intensity II – Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte;
Intensity I – Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Tandag, Surigao del Sur

Aftershocks may follow, Phivolcs said. However, they said that the earthquake is not expected to cause any damage.
