MANILA, Philippines – Netizens in areas struck by Typhoon Karding shared firsthand accounts of the devastation it left behind.

Polillo Islands, Quezon

Social media user Chrish Combalicer uploaded this video from Polillo Island in Quezon province, one of the first areas to be hit by Karding when it was still classified as a super typhoon. Strong winds and rain battered their town.

Water even began entering this Polillo Island resident’s home. Gerlie Aguila took a video of her house and adjacent store as floodwater forced them to elevate her family’s belongings.

“First time na inabot kami ng baha, nakaranas ng baha dito sa loob ng bahay, sa Polillo,” she said.

(This is the first time the flood reached us, we experienced it inside our home in Polillo.)

In the aftermath of Karding, social media user Jonard Francia recorded its devastation in Polillo. Electrical posts were tilted, and trash and leaves could be seen scattered all over the area.

Burdeos, Quezon

In Burdeos, Quezon, where Karding first made landfall on Sunday, Irina Delos Santos captured a video of about 267 people taking shelter in St. Rafael Church as the then super typhoon battered the area.

Kevin Morillo from Burdeos shared photos of Karding’s aftermath, where houses with light materials were destroyed and trees were toppled.

“Patuloy pa ring naglilinis ng mga naiwan na pinsala [ng bagyo],” Morilla told the Inquirer on Monday.

(The cleanup continues after the typhoon’s devastation.)

Another Burdeos resident named Ryan Malapo lamented the devastation, saying they have yet to receive help.

“[Hindi namin] alam kung paano magsisimula. Wala pa rin nakakarating na biyaya. Umaasa na lang sa mga tao na may mabubuting loob… at sa Panginoon,” he added.

(We do not know where to start. No blessings have arrived. We are hoping for the goodwill of people and for God.)

Dingalan, Aurora

Kalibb Arenas captured the rough waves on the Dingalan coast mere hours before Karding made landfall in the Aurora last Sunday.

Another Dingalan resident with the Twitter handle “@xvjuanxv” uploaded a video of the night Karding battered their town with torrential rain and strong winds.

San Jose, Bulacan

Angel Carlyn Garrido, a San Jose, Bulacan resident, called for rescue on Monday as floods in the area already surpassed the roof of their neighbor’s house.

“Wala [na rin] pong kuryente kaya po nakakatakot kasi baka biglang tumaas pa ang tubig eh wala na pong charge ang mga phone, baka hindi na po [kami] makahingi ng tulong,” she went on to say,” Garrido said.

(We do not have electricity, so we are scared that the water might suddenly rise. Also, our phones weren’t fully charged, so we may be unable to ask for help.)

Marikina City, Metro Manila

Meanwhile, in the flood-prone city of Marikina, Jojie Sevillena captured a video of water climbing up the streets as residents watched in the rain.

Residents also had to worry about the Marikina River, which reached the third alarm during Karding’s onslaught. Abet Cruz posted photos of the Barangay Nangka being overwhelmed with flood water.

While Typhoon Karding has left the Philippine area of responsibility, a trail of destruction marked its path. As of writing, eight people have been confirmed dead by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Meanwhile, Karding also caused P160.1 million worth of agricultural damage, said the Department of Agriculture.
