MANILA, Philippines — Nueva Ecija has been declared under a state of calamity after being ravaged by Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) over the weekend.

Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio Umali on Monday announced on his official Facebook page that the province was placed under a state of calamity through Resolution No. 82-S-2022 passed by the provincial board.

“In consideration of the huge damage and destruction sustained by the entire province, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), headed by Governor Aurelio Umali, recommended the declaration of State Calamity in the whole Province of Nueva Ecija in order that the Calamity Fund of the Provincial Government and the respective local government units in the province be utilized to expedite the help and assistance that will be provided to their constituents,” the resolution reads.

“The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, after evaluating the report and recommendation given by the PDRRMC, finds the declaration of the state of calamity necessary and with extreme urgency,” it also states.

Umali vowed to prioritize the victims of the typhoon, as well as the immediate restoration of electricity.

“The Provincial Government’s priority is the victims of the agricultural sector, destroyed homes, and the immediate restoration of electricity supply,” he said.

Nueva Ecija was one of the provinces placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5, the strongest warning signal the state weather agency could issue, during the onset of Karding.
