TUGUEGARAO CITY — At least 146 families, or 467 individuals, were evacuated in the Cagayan Valley as heavy rains brought by Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) caused rivers to swell, flooding some low-lying villages.
Leon Rafael, regional director of the Office of Civil Defense, said on Monday, Sept. 26, that the displaced residents were from Isabela, Quirino, Cagayan, and Nueva Vizcaya provinces.
Rafael said they were continuously monitoring other rivers that could burst their banks in the aftermath of the typhoon.
Landslides
Landslides were reported along the Bambang-Kasibu-Solano national road in Barangay Antutot, Dupax Del Norte town, Nueva Vizcaya province.
The road was closed while clearing operations were underway.
Also impassable was the Nueva Vizcaya-Pangasinan Road due to soil erosion along the sections of Malico, Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya-San Nicolas, Pangasinan.
The overflow bridges of Alicaocao in Cauayan, Baculod in Ilagan City, Santa Maria-Cabagan, and Cabagan-Santo Tomas were also closed due to floods.
In Quirino, the Old San Pedro overflow bridge was closed due to the swollen river. INQ
