CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — Fire destroyed five classrooms at the Sta. Cruz Elementary School main campus in Masantol town in Pampanga as Super Typhoon “Karding” (international name: Noru) raged through Luzon on Sunday night, Sept. 25.

A total of 108 students and eight teachers lost the classrooms, Mayor Jose Antonio Bustos told the Inquirer by phone.

He said an unattended electric fan could have started the fire based on an initial investigation.

“Karding’s winds blew from the right, spreading the fire to the left where the classrooms are located,” Bustos said.

To help the students resume their classes at once, he said teachers would have to do class in shifts or conduct blended sessions while a chapel and a stage are being prepared as makeshift rooms. INQ
