Magnitude 5 quake hits Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5 earthquake hit Davao Occidental on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs detected the quake at 7:16 p.m. and located its epicenter 132 kilometers east of Sarangani in Davao Occidental.

The earthquake which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of focus was 137  kilometers.

Phivolcs reported the following intenisites:

Intensity II – General Santos City

Instrumental Intensities:
Intensity II – Davao City, Davao Del Sur; Kiamba, Malungon, Sarangani
Intensity I – Maasim, Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City, T’Boli, Koronadal City, South Cotabato

Aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said. They also said there are no damages caused by the earthquake.
