BALANGA CITY — A former member of the New People’s Army (NPA), the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), surrendered to government troops in Bataan province on Wednesday (September 21), authorities said.

Col. Romell Velasco, Bataan police director, identified the former rebel as alias “Ka Nene,” 74 years old, a resident of Barangay Mabiga in Hermosa town.

Velasco said Ka Nene used to be a member of the Lino Blas command of the CPP-NPA operating in the towns of Hermosa, Dinalupihan, Bagac and Morong in Bataan.

Ka Nene also surrendered his shotgun with three live bullets and one explosive.
