MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday assured the public that all data, including all personal information, coursed through in all of its transactions are protected.
This development came after reports claiming that an LTO district office reportedly required clients to provide the ID and password of the company applying for renewal of its motor vehicle registration through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) company portal.
“Although LTO employees can search and start a driver’s license or motor vehicle registration for the client through their LTMS company portal user accounts, the agency and its employees do not access the personal accounts of clients when processing an application,” LTO chief assistant secretary Teofilo Guadiz III said in a statement.
He vowed that the LTO would investigate the veracity of the earlier relayed report and will push to appropriately penalize any of its employees found to have violated the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
“We at the LTO are committed to serve the public to make their transactions proceed in the most expeditious manner, while guaranteeing that their personal details are safe and secure at every step of the registration process,” Guadiz added.
The LTO said it would soon release a comprehensive set of guidelines on the proper use of client IDs and any other information acquired through the said application to ensure adherence with the law.
The agency noted that workstations with available technical assistance would likewise be installed in LTO waiting rooms to ease the clients’ online transactions. Lyka Farillon, INQUIRER.net intern
