2 dead in Laguna road mishaps

Motorcyclist dead in Calamba City road crash

LUCENA CITY — A pedestrian and a motorcycle rider died in separate road accidents Monday in Laguna province on Monday, police said Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Emiliano Marasigan, 55, was crossing at 6:57 p.m. the national road in Barangay Del Remedio, San Pablo City when a tricycle driven by Bobby Villanueva hit him, the Laguna police said.

Marasigan fell on the road, and a passing black sports utility vehicle (SUV) ran over him.

The SUV driver sped off, while the pedestrian, who suffered fatal body injuries, died while being taken to the San Pablo General Hospital.

The police immediately issued a flash alarm for the arrest of the still unidentified driver.

The tricycle driver is under police custody.

In Paete town, motorcycle rider JM Acillar, 18, was hit at 3:10 p.m. by cyclist Eliel Evangelista, 45, in Barangay 4.

Both riders were thrown off their respective vehicles and were taken to General Cailles Memorial General Hospital, also in the locality.

Acillar was not wearing a crash helmet and was declared dead on arrival.

Police arrested Evangelista, who was under the influence of liquor and is facing criminal charges.
