SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — Residents of Zambales province can expect to pay less for their power consumption starting next month after electricity distributors and local officials reached an agreement on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Rep. Jay Khongun of the province’s first district announced that the rate of Zambales Electric Cooperative (Zameco) I will decrease by P3.61 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) while Zameco II will decrease by P5.46 per kWh.
Khonghun said that from P18.32 per kWh last month, the rates of Zameco I will go down to P14.71 per kWh while the rates of Zameco II will go down from P20.47 per kWh to P15.01 per kWh.
Zameco I serves the northern towns of Botolan, Iba, Candelaria, Masinloc, Palauig, and Sta. Cruz, while Zameco II serves the southern towns of Subic, Castillejos, San Marcelino, San Antonio, San Narciso, San Felipe, and Cabangan.
Earlier this week, Khonghun had a dialogue with Zameco I and II together with Olongapo Electricity Distribution Company, Inc. and San Miguel Energy Corporation after some residents staged a protest in front of Zameco II’s office due to the high power rates.
After the dialogue, Khonghun announced that power rates are expected to go down by P2 to P4 per kWh.
