MMDA: Avoid Quezon Avenue-Araneta intersection

With traffic expected to become much heavier at the Quezon Avenue-Araneta Avenue intersection starting Wednesday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday reminded motorists to take alternate routes.

Several lanes of Quezon Avenue will be closed as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) begins the construction of a four-lane underpass in the area. Araneta Avenue, on the other hand, will remain open. The project is expected to be completed within 15 months.

According to Tina Velasco, MMDA assistant general manager for planning, they have instructed their enforcers to ensure that vehicular flow at the intersection remains smooth and fast-moving.

“MMDA will augment the traffic team of the DPWH contractor as we do not have the luxury [of pulling] out additional personnel from elsewhere,” she said in a text message.

In the meantime, motorists bound for Quiapo from Edsa via Quezon Avenue may take West Avenue, then Del Monte Avenue to inner streets like Mayon, Banawe, Maria Clara and other roads to get to their destination.

They may also take E. Rodriguez Sr. Boulevard, then España Avenue to downtown Manila, or Magsaysay Boulevard to Nagtahan via A. H. Lacson Avenue.

For Quezon City-bound motorists in Manila, they may either take España to E. Rodriguez Sr. Boulevard, Nagtahan then Magsaysay Boulevard to Quirino Avenue, or Mayon then either Amoranto Avenue or A. Bonifacio Avenue.
