The Manila police have started looking for a Pasig policeman who went on a shooting spree at a wake in Sta. Ana, Manila on Sunday morning that left a man dead and three more wounded.
Operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section identified the policeman as Police Officer 1 Sonny Merino, a member of the Pasig City police.
He escaped shortly after he shot Apolonio Torres, 28, and three of his companions identified as Eduardo Vidar, 28; Fernando Morales, 41; and Ruelio Matias, 29.
Torres, a resident of Oro-B Street, Estrada Extension in Sta. Ana, died several hours later at Sta. Ana Hospital due to two gunshot wounds in the head.
Vidar, Morales and Matias also sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
MPD homicide section head Insp. Armando Macaraeg said the shooting took place at around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at a wake on Oro-B Street, Extrada Extension in Sta. Ana.
The victims were playing a card game when the policeman arrived and without any warning, drew his service pistol and started firing at the gamblers.
He hit Torres twice in the back of the head while he shot Vidar in the left hand. Morales sustained a bullet wound in the head while Matias was wounded in the left forearm.
