TACLOBAN CITY — Eastern Visayas has recorded a decline in crime volume from January to July compared to last year, the police regional command reported Thursday.

The significant decrease in crime incidents in the region indicates a “growing peace, order, and security,” which could be attributed to the entire police force’s actions in the aspect of crime prevention, said Brigadier General Rommel Francisco Marbil, police regional director.

From January to July, police data showed that the total crime incidents in the region have dropped from last year’s 5,861 to 5,038 in the first half of this year.

“This marks a significant decline of 823 incidents or a 14.04 percent decrease in crime incidents in the region,” Marbil said in a press statement.

For the non-index crimes or violations of special laws, the Biliran Police Provincial Office recorded a notable decrease of 87 or 44 percent from 200 to 113 incidents, followed by the Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office, with 229 or 42 percent drop from 541 to 312 incidents.

Ormoc City Police Office also had a 79 or 42 percent decrease from 188 to 109 incidents.

The Leyte Police Provincial Office recorded the lowest number of crimes, from 1,415 in 2021 to 1,032 this year.
