Iloilo’s top cop orders probe on Estancia town ambush-slay

The Sandiganbayan has acquitted a former Iloilo town mayor and two other municipal officials of graft and malversation charges in relation to alleged falsified payroll documents for several infrastructure projects.

ILOILO CITY — The provincial police director of Iloilo has ordered the investigation on the shooting Wednesday of four men in Estancia town.

Colonel Adrian Acollador, director of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office, said three victims died while another companion survived the attack.

The fatalities were John Paul Mark Bosque, 28; Chrysler Floyd Fernandez, 27; and Mark Clarence Libao, 24–all of Iloilo City.

Bosque, Fernandez, and Libao were declared dead on arrival at the Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan town.

The lone survivor was Jebron Parojinog, 24.

Investigators have yet to identify the perpetrators and the motive behind the killing.

The initial investigation showed that the four victims were on board a white Isuzu MU-X sports utility vehicle driven by Parojinog when assailants flagged their vehicle down around 4 a.m. Wednesday in Estancia.

The perpetrators on board a motorcycle then fired shots at the victims using a caliber .45 pistol.

Parojinog said he escaped by quickly going down from the vehicle and running for safety.

The Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Unit is checking the victims’ background.

Parojinog, a fish broker, told the police that he and Bosque sold a fishing boat for P7 million to settle a debt to another person.

Parojinog said he did not know to whom Bosque owed a debt and the amount of the debt.
