DOH records 901 more cases of Omicron subvariants

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said it has detected 901 additional cases of several Omicron subvariants, based on its latest genome sequencing run.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said it has detected 901 additional cases of several Omicron subvariants, based on its latest genome sequencing run.

Latest data from the DOH showed that the majority of these casee, 839 in total, belonged to the BA.5 sublineage which were detected in all regions.

The regions that detected the highest number of this subvariant were Metro Manila with 182, followed by 135 in Western Visayas and 116 in Cordillera Administrative Region.

Meanwhile, 11 infections were of the BA.4 subvariant while one were reported each for the BA.2.75 and BA.2.12.1 subvariants.

Forty-nine other infections were then tagged as “other sublineages” while two were recorded from the Delta variant of COVID-19.

These numbers were detected from the DOH’s sequencing run from September 9 to 12.

DOH, however, did not specify which among these infections are still currently active, recovered or have resulted in deaths.

As of September 13, the country currently has 24,502 active infections, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker.
